About Claus C. Simonsen

Ive always had a weakness for designing furniture. When I went to the School of Architecture in Aarhus in 1988, I wanted to become a furniture designer. But I quickly became fascinated by architecture, and graduated as an architect in 1994. For me, furniture design is about variations on simple themes. The theme is the archetype the designer works with: a table, a chair, etc. I compare furniture design with jazz music, where the players improvise on jazz standards. As a furniture designer you also improvise on archetypes to create furniture that is both recognisable and innovative.
